Summary

There’s no crying in baseball, apparently no reading either。

To me, it was a no-brainer。 What better way to pass the time during the world’s most boring sport? If my best friend is going to guilt me into attending a Coyotes game with him, I’m definitely bringing a book。 But who could have predicted star pitcher Carter Barlowe would spot me in the stands and give two flying fastballs that I was more interested in my novel than in his return to the mound? I had never heard of him before that day。 Now, he’s made sure I know exactly who he is and what he wants。 Me。

so average。 felt like a wattpad story。 literally the only reason i don’t read that many sport romances is because the covers are soooo ugly omg

Very rushed story。 Short chapters and ever changing POV made it hard to get to know the MCs。 Book is an easy read but it was very cringe at times; there are some phrases that don’t belong in books, such as “bruh” and “vibe” which were both in the book。 Felt the abuse and trauma was rushed at times despite it being a very serious topic, it almost seemed like it was just an “obstacle” to further the plot (in a bad way)。 Easy read but not very fun to read。

This was surprisingly good。 I believe the true villain in this story is Rhett not Cash and not the mother either。 I loved it all until the last page。 I mean I would've rated it a four star until the last page。I am a teacher and reading books like this are too real for me。 I was able to ignore a lot of things。 Like the part where he hangs out with her on her free period or the part where she does zero lesson planning and her kids are all just so well behave and she is loved all the time。 When she This was surprisingly good。 I believe the true villain in this story is Rhett not Cash and not the mother either。 I loved it all until the last page。 I mean I would've rated it a four star until the last page。I am a teacher and reading books like this are too real for me。 I was able to ignore a lot of things。 Like the part where he hangs out with her on her free period or the part where she does zero lesson planning and her kids are all just so well behave and she is loved all the time。 When she adopted her student I gave up。 Cause in reality no matter how close you are to your students。 You have 360 students every year。 They all have their own issues。 This is unrealistic to me and kind of creepy to be honest。 。。。more

I was hooked by the banter in the first few chapters but it ended too quickly。 I liked how it has dual POV and short chapters, so that's for the 2 stars。 I was hooked by the banter in the first few chapters but it ended too quickly。 I liked how it has dual POV and short chapters, so that's for the 2 stars。 。。。more

Swoon, Really SwoonAvery and Carter’s story is definitely a home run in my book! I can relate to the character since I love books and getting lost in a story is something I most often do, and this story I did。 I love how the plot and character build-up is amazing in terms of how they slowly fall in love and sharing their love to the rest of the characters。 Definitely a must read!

reviewMan this was good。 Actually good。 I wished it was longer。 Definitely called that ending hella early on I love it it was a swift and easy read did it in 2 1/2 hours and it got me out of my slump。 Had some good spice was comical and had heartfelt dominating moments。 I identify heavily with Avery so it gives me hope for a Carter one day

I’ll never know, but the jumbotron helped her go viral over her decision to read rather than watch the game。 I’ll make a checklist to pretend I don’t care about the sport next time I’m at a game。 Anyway, I really liked Carter and how sweet he was especially because she didn’t want to go out with him but he would still make cute gestures to get her to give him a chance。 Reluctantly, she did but it took a while especially after a bad experience with Bodie’s brother that caused her to have an agenda against “jocks”。 I wish that had been explored more because we know he cheated but she never talked about it and he was mentioned, but he would be gone the next second。 For a while, she would judge Carter because she thought he was like every jock, but she never took the chance to know him better。 I was so glad when she finally accepted to go out with him because Carter had been visiting her at work practically every day and putting all the effort to get her number。 It’s quite adorable how infatuated he was with her after seeing her ONCE and she was behind a book the entire time。 There was a moment where he got her one of everything at a coffee shop because he wanted to know her breakfast preference!!! That scene had me swooning because they weren’t even dating but he wanted to get on her good side and she was still reluctant to go out with him。 Once she accepted a date, it was fast-paced because she confided in him more and started genuinely caring for him。 I’m just glad that he understood that she was scared to commit to him and didn’t push her boundaries, but was also willing to step back so she could be the one to come to him。 I think they both did their fair share of contacting each other, but he was more vocal about what he wanted from her。 From the reviews, I saw that many people thought she was unlikable but wouldn’t anyone be skeptical to date someone after being cheated on? I think it’s a normal response and she had every right to be hesitant and understand what his motives were 。。 especially because he was so persistent and would keep coming back。 Regardless, he made the firstmove and now they’re happy so that’s all that matters。This book isn’t as bad as everyone makes it out to be, it’s obviously quick paced and there might be rushed plot lines but its still an entertaining read。 There were moments that had me questioning their dynamic, but I still had a good time reading this book and seeing the development of their relationship once Avery let her guard down。 I do think the third act breakup was unnecessary and was thrown out of nowhere, we never got an official girlfriend ask, so there were times where the line of their relationship was blurred。 There was a scene nearing 70% where Carter lets his hatred for his father get the best of him, he was confused when he saw Avery at his game with his father next to her so he jumps to conclusions and thinks his father orchestrated everything as a set up。 He accuses her of teaming up with his father to sabotage his game, and he unleashes his anger out on her which was completely uncalled for。 This moment was upsetting especially because Avery flinched and she thought he was angry enough to hit her, again, a sensitive topic because Carter’s father would hit his mom。 I hate that this was included because Carter said he would never lay a hand on Avery but it still felt terrifying to watch him yell at her and her being completely frozen in fear。There were heavier topics in this books such as mentions of abuse that Carter’s father would inflict on him and a side character named EJ which could have been explored better。 Carter is thrown off his game whenever his father Cash, shows up。 When he was younger, he showed up, and Carter pitched the best game of his Little League career, only to have his father break his arm when we they home because he saw his kid as competition at ten years old。 However, the world doesn’t know about it and he plays despite the comparisons to his father。 The book alternated from lighthearted moments to disheartening topics and conversations between Carter and his coach about feeling defeated and needing patience to withstand the anger he felt whenever his father was around。 It could have been developed better, but I think the main message got across and Carter was a resilient character。 I personally loved him, and he was always thinking of others — he just wanted people to see him as more than just a baseball star which is why he found Avery alluring。 •°¯`•• 𝐄𝐉 ••´¯°•I think that Avery is such a good teacher and she cared a bit more for EJ, he was consistently mentioned and he deserved his own book。 His backstory was rushed but we do know that his father was abusive so he wanted to get emancipated, therefore he asked Carter for help to get a lawyer。 In the end, Carter & Avery end up adopting him and his brother Patrick which caught me off guard。 However, I’m glad that he is going to be in a loving home and have their support because they would never hurt him。 Was it random? Yes, but I’m not mad about it。 It was obviously hinted throughout the book that he had something going on at home, and it was a full circle moment to have him get a small sense of relief in a new home。 I’m happy for him and the Barlowe family!!! I won’t be a hater because he was a funny side character whenever he was around, not to mentioned he was a little matchmaker。𝐎𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐥, this is a quick read and something that can get you out of a reading slump。 It does give off wattpad vibes, but I was obsessed with it back in 2015 so I was loving this。 To each their own, but I would reread this for fun because it was a light read that did have a fair share of cute moments + friendship with a protective best friend “older brother” vibes。 I’m actually glad I listened to the TikTok rec 。。。more

3/5 StarsCute sports romance with lovable characters。The baseball lingo was accurate and I love how much Avery hated the game。 I didn't love how Avery and Chase handled their conflict, and felt like some scenes were poorly executed and unnecessary (eg。 Bodie flip flopping)。 Overall was a quick read that kept me engaged。 3/5 StarsCute sports romance with lovable characters。The baseball lingo was accurate and I love how much Avery hated the game。 I didn't love how Avery and Chase handled their conflict, and felt like some scenes were poorly executed and unnecessary (eg。 Bodie flip flopping)。 Overall was a quick read that kept me engaged。 。。。more

I saw this recommended on TikTok 。。。 Dnf 48%It's not that the storyline was bad, it's that the MFC is almost completely unlikeable。 She is dismissive and rude towards this guy Carter (a hotshot baseball pitcher)。 So where in any world is it logical for him to keep pursuing her when there is absolutely nothing (besides maybe her looks) that recommend her。 Just did not pass the sniff test and at 48% I was over it。 I saw this recommended on TikTok 。。。 Dnf 48%It's not that the storyline was bad, it's that the MFC is almost completely unlikeable。 She is dismissive and rude towards this guy Carter (a hotshot baseball pitcher)。 So where in any world is it logical for him to keep pursuing her when there is absolutely nothing (besides maybe her looks) that recommend her。 Just did not pass the sniff test and at 48% I was over it。 。。。more

fun This was a fun read。 Quick but fun。 I finished it in one sitting。 It was predictable but didn’t stop me from enjoying the book

Starre (Orion’s version)

look this was not a good book。 I read it ironically (hoping it would surprise me — it didn’t)。 It starts off like any food 2014 Wattpad book, with a best friend dragging the mc somewhere she doesn’t want to go (in this case, a baseball game) and instead of engaging like a normal person, she reads a book。 But because she’s so not like the other girls, our love interest catches her from the field and immediately falls in love with her。 Whatever。 Bad trope that I hate, but you know, we’re here for look this was not a good book。 I read it ironically (hoping it would surprise me — it didn’t)。 It starts off like any food 2014 Wattpad book, with a best friend dragging the mc somewhere she doesn’t want to go (in this case, a baseball game) and instead of engaging like a normal person, she reads a book。 But because she’s so not like the other girls, our love interest catches her from the field and immediately falls in love with her。 Whatever。 Bad trope that I hate, but you know, we’re here for some LOLs。 Even after this disastrous start, the fmc is insufferable for the first half of the story。 Like the love interest is a nice guy, truly just vibing out here and she’s like “we’re from different worlds。 he might hurt me。 he’s a JOCK。 I’ve been burned before。” Like girl shut up。 He’s literally done nothing to earn your ire, please chill。 But what’s worse is that the love interest proves her worries true at like the 75% mark? Like what was this character switch up BRO。 It was so out of character I didn’t even understand it。 And there were so many random side plots that just are not developed。 Like the fmc is a teacher and has this one kid who clearly has a hard life and it just pops up at the end like “oh he has an abusive dad let’s write one sentence about it and then give him a happy ending” sure。 There’s the whole mmc’s dad being abusive and blackmailing players/the stadium ppl and all this other stuff(and honestly he needs to get a job at his big age)。 And finally the whole trauma of the fmc’s ex-bc who apparently is the reason she can’t trust any man, and he like appears for one second and is never heard from again。 No closure or anything。 This has to be one of the worst and most inconsistent books I have ever read。 The characters were flat and honestly constantly switching personalities to fit this nightmare of a plot。 And it was so elementary, I just could not stand this book。 WOULD NOT RECOMMEND。 。。。more
